NASA Scientist says, ‘This is the Last Chance’

June 26, 2008 by mancrud · Leave a Comment

Top NASA scientist James Hansen told congress on Monday that the earth is passing the point of no return with regards to the amount of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere.

Without any changes we could expect (within a couple decades) a collapse of the ecosystem, mass extinction among animals, and a dramatic rising in sea levels.

The main culprit? The burning of fossil fuels.

Is he right?

Well, certainly we have seen our fair share of scientist step forward saying we on a dangerous path (no, Al Gore does not count).

Sen. James Inhofe said in a statement “Hanson, Gore and the media have been trumpeting man-made climate doom since the 1980’s. But Americans are not buying it.”

The Pen is Mightier

June 24, 2008 by mancrud · Leave a Comment

They say the pen is mightier than the sword. If that is the case than the new Evolution Pen may be just what you need.

How many times have you been getting tired of writing only to wish you could adjust the pen’s center of gravity from the front to the back? Sure, you say “never” now, but you are no doubt intrigued.

Well, for $2,700 you can.

The new Evolution Pen from Conway Stewart will be limited in production.

For the rest of us…just get used to hand fatigue.

Hot Dogs Endangered!

June 24, 2008 by mancrud · Leave a Comment

7 Billion!

That is the number of hot dogs that  are expected be senselessly consumed  between Memorial Day and Labor  Day.

Sure, they are one of America’s hottest  icons (insert Apple Pie and Baseball  here) but at what price to the overall food consumption “circle of life?”

Do hot dogs not have feelings too? Are  they not consumed at such an alarming  rate that it jeopardizes the stability of  the worldwide mustard or sauerkraut trade?

Why do hot dog buns come in packs of twelve while hot dogs come in packs of ten? *Sure it bothers some of us, but of the 50,000 consumer letters Oscar Mayer gets each year, only about 15 ever mention this as a concern.

I think Bratwurst run a close second in overall “dog like” consumption – but only if the Green Bay Packers are playing that weekend.

The ACLU and like organizations need to address these hot dog injustices before it gets out of control – Fourth of July is just around the corner!

Bible Holds Secrets to Weight Loss!

I get a kick out of all the ways you can “easily” lose weight and all the amazing “secrets” that are discovered on an almost daily basis. I think my favortite was in my email inbox today.

“The Flat Stomach Pill”

Sure, the name says it all. But what about the “science” behind it?

“When chemistry professor Kazuo Miyashita and his colleagues at Hokkaido University in Japan fed obese mice this compound, called fucoxanthin, the mice produced high levels of protein involved in fat burning, and they shed 2 to 5 percent of their body fat, mostly from the abdomen…”

Wow! What a Statement!

  • First off, wasn’t “Kazuo Miyashita” in that Karate Kid movie?
  • “Hokkaido University?” Must be a real tough school if we can’t pronounce it!
  • “Japan?!” That is over the ocean where the smart people live right?
  • “Obese Mice??”
  • “Shed 2 to 5 percent of body fat?” Don’t they have those wheel things to run on anyway?

And to think all this time I was trying a radical “move more, eat less” diet like the The 7 Principles of Fat Burning: Get Healthy, Lose Weight and Keep It Off!

Tiger Takes Time Off…

June 23, 2008 by mancrud · Leave a Comment

With the 2008 season already behind him, it leaves some questions unanswered in the “without Tiger” era…

Who will win the British Open?

What will happen to PGA revenue?

What will happen to Sponsorship revenue?

Will Tiger Gatorade make it?
